Woongjin Wins BMW Korea Digital Transformation Project

Woongjin, a specialized IT digital company, has set its sights on the mobility IT market by winning BMW Korea’s digital transformation project. Through this project, BMW Korea will establish a digital management system optimized for the Korean business environment.

Woongjin announced on May 31 that it had been selected as the implementation partner for BMW Korea’s ‘DMS NEXT’ project. The contract spans a total of eight years, including the implementation period, and is expected to create opportunities for market diversification through business cooperation with Woongjin Group.

‘DMS NEXT’ is a project launched to innovate the work processes of BMW Korea headquarters and official dealer users. Woongjin’s mobility platform, WDMS(Woongjin Digital Mobility System), will be implemented as the core system.

WDMS is Korea’s only dealer-specialized system that can improve work productivity by integrating and managing dealer operations through an IT system. It covers customer management in the CRM area, vehicle sales, and after-sales maintenance. It is also designed not to be limited to a specific client, allowing a customized user environment to be configured according to business characteristics.

In addition, SAP Business One ERP will be introduced to some official dealers in Korea to enhance work convenience with WDMS. Both systems will run on the Amazon Web Services(AWS) cloud to ensure operational stability between overseas and domestic operations.

Woongjin explained that ‘stability, convenience, functionality, and speed’ are the key directions of this project. By introducing a system based on the latest technologies, continuous upgrades will become possible, enabling BMW Korea to secure an environment that can respond flexibly to change.

Data utilization functions will be strengthened in areas such as after-sales service, sales, and distribution. In particular, the UI/UX will be significantly improved from PC to mobile, creating a ‘Single-OneView’ user environment. The project will also ensure bidirectional data consistency between DMS and ERP, transforming the environment so that multiple systems can appear as one integrated system.

In addition, Woongjin will create a data visualization environment using reporting tools to maximize data utilization and convert existing documents into data to support paperless operations. Starting with official dealers, the overall distribution channels, including sales agencies and service centers, will shift to IT system-based work. This is expected to enable BMW Korea to achieve both digital transformation suited to the Korean market and operational stability.

Woongjin officially launched WDMS for the mobility market in 2019 and has continued to upgrade it through DMS projects with multiple automobile brands in Korea. Since launching its proprietary solution business, Woongjin has successfully won projects not only from domestic brands but also from overseas brands, setting a first in the Korean automobile market by enabling an imported brand to adopt a domestically developed solution.

Suyoung Lee, CEO of Woongjin, said, “At a time when demand for non-face-to-face vehicle purchasing is increasing, BMW Korea’s digital innovation and advanced management will become a strong competitive advantage in the post-COVID era.” He added, “This project has provided an opportunity to confirm Woongjin’s unique technological capabilities and the synergy among its core business divisions. We will be a partner in BMW Korea’s future IT strategy.”
